Ways to volunteer this holiday (and every) season
Holidays are a time to spend with your loved ones and be thankful for everything you have, but it’s also a perfect time to give back to others by volunteering in your community. Here are some of the ways that you can get involved.
- Volunteer snuggling with dogs and cats at your local animal shelter
- Help out at a nursing home by playing games with the residents
- Make holiday crafts and bring them to hospitals for patients
- Cook meals for veterans in your neighborhood
- Offer to shovel a neighbor’s driveway
- Tutor kids after school
- Help keep parks and playgrounds clean
- Volunteer in your community’s next diabetes or cancer walk
- Donate toys to Toys for Tots
- Take time to recycle and encourage others to do so as well
- Serve food at a soup kitchen
- Keep a change jar going and donate it to a charity of your choice at the end of the month
- Volunteer at a blood drive
- Help clean up the beach (if it’s warm enough)
- Donate old clothes to Goodwill
