July 4th – Planning a Day of Meals worth Celebrating!

Summer holiday celebrations bring about all sorts of things: balloons, cutouts, cards, festive foods…and a whole bunch artificial sugars.

This year, as we celebrate Independence Day, let’s also celebrate our freedom from over-eating too many artificial sugars and sweets! Below are a few recipes to help keep you on track this holiday, without giving into too many pesky hankerings. (Don’t worry- we haven’t sworn off sweets completely!)

Breakfast: Keep your breakfast simple (and festive!) with this simple Greek yogurt, raspberry, blueberry, granola and whey protein powder bowl. Recipe: ½ cup Greek Vanilla yogurt, 1 scoop tera’swhey Bourbon Vanilla, ¼ cup blueberries, ¼ cup raspberries, ¼ cup granola

Hydration: Fight off the heat with this refreshing fruit infused water! Recipe: ½ gallon ice water, 1 cup fresh strawberries (halved), 1/3 cup fresh blueberries, 4 (medium) lemon wedges.

Before Lunch: Snack on some watermelon to keep your brain fueled, your tummy happy and your hydration levels satisfied! (If you want to add some spunk to your watermelon, cut out little stars with a cookie cutter!)

Lunch: This salad will give you just the right amount of flavor while filling you up and keeping you energized! Recipe: 1 ½ cup spinach + kale + arugula mixed greens, ½ avocado (sliced), 4 medium strawberries (sliced), ¼ cup blueberries + blackberries, 1 tbsp. raspberry vinaigrette

Before Dinner: It’s time to replenish after all of the festivities and activities. Don’t panic. Have some fruit in a waffle cone! Blueberries and raspberries are great source of protein, and the cone is a fun (and delicious) way to take it with you wherever you’re off to next.

Dinner: It’s finally time to start the grill! There are too many wonderful recipes to choose from- so here are a few that are sure to please everyone.

Vegetarian Burger: This Chunky Portabella Burger combines all of your favorite things: black beans, mushrooms, broccoli, onions, garlic and Worcestershire sauce:

Turkey Burger: What do you get when you combine Greek Yogurt, ground turkey, sun dried tomatoes, crumbled feta, spinach, red onions and cucumbers? A DELICOUS turkey burger that will satisfy your taste buds (and growling stomach!)

Sides: They might not be the star of the meal, but these side dishes are a great compliment to any main-course you’ll be serving up.

Dessert: Last but certainly not least- dessert. You’ve been so good all day fighting the chips and sugary drinks that come along with summer holidays…now it’s time to treat yourself.
