It’s farmers’ market season! Time to break out your cute summer dress and the wicker basket and head down to your local farmers’ market! Whether fruits are your thing, or you fancy a slice of cheesy bread, the market is a perfect place to indulge and spend some time outdoors. Don’t forget your cash and sunscreen!

Here in Madison, Wisc., Jess and Mary of the tera’swhey® team were out and about last week at the Dane County Farmers’ Market picking up some fresh fruits and veggies. Let’s see what they got (and love)!

 

First up, Broccoli!

Mary loves adding broccoli to her salads during the day and mixing pieces into her stir-fry at night. She also loves all of broccoli’s noteworthy nutrients including, vitamins A and C, calcium, and fiber. Talk about a nutritious snack!

 

Next, Sugar snap peas!

Sugar snap peas offer a wealth of vitamins and other nutrients that help to improve the health of the heart and bones. They’re the ultimate guilt-free sweet snack: Sugar snap peas won’t send your blood sugar on a roller coaster ride and can aid in the prevention of diabetes. Low-glycemic diets also help decrease fat stores and discourage insulin resistance, so you can shed pounds while still satisfying your sweet tooth. No wonder Jess and Mary tried every booth’s variety, and then munched on them all day.

 

Finally, strawberries!

Berries of any type are good for you, but strawberries are really packed with health benefits. These potent little packages protect your heart, increase good cholesterol, lower your blood pressure, and guard against cancer.

Packed with vitamins, fiber, and particularly high levels of antioxidants, strawberries are a sodium-free, fat-free, cholesterol-free, low-calorie food. They are among the top 20 fruits in antioxidant capacity and are a good source of manganese and potassium. Just one serving — about eight strawberries — provides more vitamin C than an orange. How awesome is that?

 

Time for a recipe

Here at tera’swhey® we like to try new protein recipes to spice up our meals and snacks. We used the strawberries from the farmers’ market and blended them with our tera’swhey® Organic Bourbon Vanilla protein powder, and few other ingredients to make a protein-packed yogurt parfait that keeps us full here in the office.

 

Tera’swhey Strawberry Vanilla Bliss Parfait

Ingredients

6 oz. Greek yogurt (we like Fage yogurt)

½ cup of granola

¼ cup of sliced strawberries

1 scoop tera’swhey® Organic Vanilla protein powder

Drizzle of honey

 

Directions

Mix protein powder and yogurt together

Spoon half of the mixture into a glass

Spoon 2 tablespoons of granola overtop and smooth surface

Spoon remaining half of yogurt onto the granola layer

Spoon strawberries overtop

Drizzle honey on top, to taste
